Project Overview

Impossible Home (she/her) is a US-based solo developer. With a background in game design and a few small projects published to itch.o, Impossible Home approached Starfall PR for her first Steam launch, Whimel Academy. Beginning our marketing efforts in March 2024, Starfall executed a full launch campaign including press outreach, earned content creator coverage, social media, digital marketing, and community management. In 6 months, Whimel Academy launched in Early Access with 13,000 wishlists and sold 1500 copies within its first month.

The Task

With no marketing presence except a newly published Steam page, Starfall PR organized a 6-month launch campaign which included the following:

Social media guidance, including a content calendar to provide the developer with post to share on different accounts.

From-scratch Discord build, including outreach efforts to grow the community.

Advised the developer on trailer cinematics and oversaw a partnership with an indie animation artist.

Oversee a digital marketing campaign on Reddit, Instagram, and Facebook. These efforts doubled wishlists in the month leading up to launch.

The Results

Whimel Academy surpassed Impossible Home’s expectations; not only did it achieve a successful Early Access launch, but wishlist numbers continue to grow each day, guaranteeing a strong 1.0 launch on the horizon.

  • 13,000+ wishlists at launch
  • 1500 sales in the game’s first month
  • Average conversion of $1.03/wishlist through digital marketing
  • Active Discord community of 300+ members, and counting!
  • Engagement with the “cozy game” content community, securing livestreams and video content published at launch
  • Preview/Review campaign including placements on Tier 1 outlets such as Siliconera, and niche sites such as Ladies Gamers that cater specifically to the cozy game community
